IMSI IMSI is a method, for examining sperm under a high-magnification microscope about 15 times more powerful than Standard labaratory equipment, to select a good genetic quality sperm, without causing any damages to its morphology. This technique allows us to examine sperms morrphologic characteristic.
Using Standard techniques, sperm is magnified maximum 400 times.at this level general characteristics of sperm cells can still be seen.( head, tail, neck)But not the some organels and vacuals on the sperm. Compared to other avarage İVF tecniques,IMSI is significantly more effective than others, with the advantage of selecting good quality sperms by magnifying the image of the sperm 1380-8000 times without harming their morphology. High powered microscopes are used for this technique, This tecnique, allowing doctors to pick the best and healthies sperm, which are more likely to produce a healty embryo with a good chance for fertility.Research has proven that the successs rate of IMSI is 25%-40% higher than ICS.This is the first use of this technique in Turkey. With routine ICSI technique, morphologically normal sperms are chosen. This techniquedoes not allow analyisis of the DNA. Using damaged,or faulty DNA, reduces the chance of fertizilation.Low quality embryos mean higher risk of abortation, and also genetic illness, implantion and babies with malformation(abnormalities) Faulty DNA means it is impossible to achieve positive results with either IVF or spontaneous pregnancy. Abnormal cell metabolism and oksidative stress also may cause bad effects in DNA..Smoking,poor air quality,an irregular sex life are also negative factors on the quality of male DNA This unhealthy DNA can be repaired, and healthy babies may be resulted. But in such cases, we identified that abnormalities can appear in babies at a later stage ,for example abnormal growth, early ageing and lung and skin tumours. Therefore strong DNA structure is the key factor in conceiving genetically healthy babies.Strong DNA structure is transferred to future generations.
When men over 35 are more likely to conceive babies which are later aborted. Compering spontaneously conceived babies with babies born with ICSI ;few diffirences are found, except for some congentinal abnormalities with ICSI babies. In spite of not having enough evidence of dramatic differences between babies with faulty DNA ,we can verify that using the IMSI technique allows us opportunity to reduce the risk of later complications.
