In July 1978, a healthy baby girl was born for the first time with the method of test tube baby. Innovations in medicine and bio-technology was reflected in the treatments of test tube baby in a short period of time and especially new treatment methods, developed after 1990s have been a flicker to hope for many childless couple. Today, thousand of couples have children with these methods every year.

For test tube baby treatments, in vitro fertilization (IVF), which means fertilization outside the body, is used. The method of the test tube baby is having the oocytes, gathered from a woman, fertilized by her partner’s sperms outside the body (laboratory environment) and resettling the established embryos after 2-5 days in the uterus of the woman.

For women who will receive IVF, drugs are administered for the development and growing of many eggs in their ovaries.

Eggs (oocytes) develop inside the folicules of the ovaries. When folicules reach a certain size, oocytes are taken out of the body.

In a laboratory environment oocytes and sperm are gathered together.

Conventional IVF / Micro-Injection

Established embryos are placed into special devices called incubator. Special liquids in the culture media contain substances required for the nurturing and growing of the embryos. The interior environment of an incubator is a very accurate device, keeping the temperature, humidity and gas concentration required for the division and growth of the embryos at a certain level. Highly purified and filtered air is present within the incubator.

After the embryos have been kept in the laboratory environment for a certain period of time (2-5 days), are taken out of the incubator and transferred in to the womb of the mother to be. After this stage, embryos pass the time till labour in the womb of the mother. Therefore, embryo, that normally passes approximately 3-5 days in tubes before setlling in the womb of the mother, passes this time in the laborayory during IVF application. Since the tubes of the woman are completely bypassed here, a woman without tubes or with congested tubes can have a baby by this way.
