Pregnancy test and ultrasound
Pregnancy test: Conducted 14 days after following egg collection.Test conducted before this time can be misleading. Pregnancy hormone level known as beta-HCG is checked from the blood. Pregnancy tests with urine can be misleading during this period.
The results are interpreted like this:
< 5 IU/mL = No pregnancy
> 5-20 IU/mL = Usually biochemical pregnancy occurs at these values.
> 20 IU/mL = Pregnancy is present. If this value is above 100, then the risk of multi pregnancy possibility increases.
Pregnancy test should be repeated after 2-3 days. During this period beta HCG value should be nearly 2 times the first value or more. If this value does not increase as required or decrease, then it is considered to be negative. In this case, this should be the indicator of biochemical pregnancy or a negativelt developing pregnancy.
Biochemical pregnancy: A condition only detected with pregnancy test, but pregnancy can not develop. Pregnancy test values are generally below required levels and decrease later. Pregnancy can not be viewed with ultrasound.
Clinic pregnancy: Pregnancy test values are at the required levels. 2 weeks after these tests pregnancy vesicle and embryo can be seen with ultrasound. In this period how many embryos are implanted can be seen. In order to talk about clinic pregnancy, it is must to see the pregnancy with ultrasound.
First ultrasound examination: A twin pregnancy on the left and a triple pregnancy on the right are seen.
An embryo of 10 weeks is seen with the ultrasound. |
