What is a hysterectomy?

Hysterectomy

It is the process of removing the entire uterus from the body. Hysterectomy surgery can be performed abdominal (open method), vaginal and laparoscopic (closed). The first choice is always the vaginal hysterectomy method. If it cannot be removed only vaginally, laparoscopic removal of the uterus should be preferred. The open method should be offered to patients as a last resort because of the advantages of other methods.

Advantages of Laparoscopic Hysterectomy over open method

  • Provides better viewing
  • Less chance of complications during and after the operation
  • Less pain is felt as scars are minimal Requires less medication
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Getting back to routine faster
  • Requires less cost

In summary, laparoscopic hysterectomy performed by experienced surgeons is a safe, comfortable and advantageous operation for both the patient and the surgeon, and the complication rates are very low.

Other conditions for which Laparoscopic Hysterectomy can be performed

  • Fibroids Can be removed by myomectomy (removal of the fibroid) or, if necessary, laparoscopically (hysterectomy) of the entire uterus.
  • Laparoscopic hysterectomy can be performed in early cancers of the cervix.
  • Laparoscopic hysterectomy and, if necessary, lymphadenectomy (removal of lymph nodes) can be performed for bleeding of the intrauterine tissue (endometrium) that cannot be stopped with medication, atypical hyperplasia or cancers.
