Fertilization (IUI)

Fertilization (IUI)

Fertilization; that is, Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI) is a process of leaving prepared sperm cells into the uterus.
With this method, it is aimed to separate quality sperm cells moving fast within ejaculate (sperm) from others and transferring cells in a certain quality and number into the uterus. Sperm cells activate thanks to this separation process; that is, they earn the ability to fertilize. The sperms are ensured to reach the oocyte more easily by leaving them in a region close to the ready sample uterus.
A medication is applied to the woman for 1-3 weeks before fertilization. hCG (pregnyl) is administered approximately 34-36 hours before the day of operation in order to trigger the ovaries. No oocyte pick-up and anesthesia is required during fertilization. Fertilization takes 10-15 minutes for women and again a resting period of 10-15 minutes is sufficient.

Who are Candidates for Fertilization:

  • There should be at least 2-3 millions/ml quality and very fast sperms in ejaculate of male
  • Amount of ejaculate should be minimum 2 ml
  • Sperm morphology should be higher than 2% (ideal >4%)
  • Tubes of female should be unblocked

Rate of conception as a result of fertilization is between 10-18%. It can be tried 4-5 times in appropriate pairs. If the pairs who encounter non-conception as a result of fertilization have especially age problem, ICSI/IMSI/IVF implementations should be initiated.
