A pioneering new method for the assessment of male infertility.

What is Male Infertility and What is the Mioxsys System for?

It is the inability to get pregnant although a couple has regular sexual intercourse and does not use contraception for 12 months. It is defined as primary (primary) infertility if no pregnancy has occurred before, as secondary infertility if at least one pregnancy has occurred, whether or not it resulted in a live birth.

Nowadays about 15% of couples face infertility problem. The cause of infertility is male-related problems in approximately 40% of the couples, female-related problems in approximately %40, and both female and male-related problems in the remaining 20%.

Male infertility can be caused by low sperm production, abnormal sperm function, or blockages that prevent sperm from coming out of the testicles through the reproductive tract. Diseases, injuries, chronic health problems, lifestyle choices, and other factors can also play a role in male infertility.

The first test recommended in patients with suspected male infertility is the semen analysis test (spermiogram). In this test, sperm count, sperm motility, morphological features and viability of sperm are analyzed in the semen sample taken from the man.

The Mioxsys System, on the other hand, is the most innovative system that quickly and accurately measures the oxidative stress level of sperm that cannot be detected in routine semen analysis.

High levels of oxidative stress can harm normal sperm by causing lipid peroxidation and DNA damage, and cause poor sperm function and infertility. High DNA damage in the sperm may negatively affect the development of the embryo and may lead to failure of pregnancy or early miscarriage due to poor embryo quality.

This test is usually advised in our patients:
• With idiopathic (unknown cause or origin) male infertility
• Having male accessory gland infection (i.e. prostatitis)
• Who are smoker
• Who are older than 40 years
• Having a medical history of failed IUI or IVF/ICSI cycles.

When the result is above the determined limit values, it is important to reduce the oxidative stress level that the sperm are exposed to. To this end, it is necessary for the male patient to improve their quality of life, to benefit from antioxidant-containing support products for at least 3 months to reduce oxidative stress.
